Maddy is the founder and creative force behind Apex Tattooz. Maddy: Three Subjects, One Flowing Composition
A skull, a Hannya mask and a snake each carry enough detail to stand alone. In Maddy's black-and-grey composition, the snake connects the subjects through the length of the tattoo. Pale teeth and facial highlights break through deep shading, making the two faces distinct even within a dense design.
Look at the broad shapes first, then the smaller details: the mask has its own silhouette, while the snake's scales add texture around it. This is a useful reference if you love intricate work but still want a clear main subject.
For your own tattoo: decide which subject should lead and which elements should support it. Bring that priority, your preferred placement and your comfort with darker shading to the consultation.

Sahil: Character in a Cinematic Portrait
The red bandana is the first colour accent you notice in Sahil's Jack Sparrow portrait. Beneath it, the sideways gaze, moustache and braided hair make the character recognisable. Much of the face stays in softer grey tones, while darker eyes and strands of hair provide definition.
The portrait fills the upper arm vertically. The head remains the focus as braids and supporting detail continue below the face, rather than competing with the expression.
Choosing a portrait reference? Start with the expression you actually want to wear. Compare the eye direction and head angle in your favourite images before choosing the size. A small colour accent, as seen here, can give a mostly black-and-grey portrait a very different character.

Tanmay: Shiva and Nandi, Connected on the Forearm
Shiva's closed eyes set a calm tone at the top of Tanmay's composition. Nandi sits below, framed by intersecting geometric lines. The two faces have separate areas to occupy, with beads, drapery and linework carrying the eye between them.
Notice the contrast between the curved facial shading and the straighter geometric framework around Nandi. Those different visual textures help organise the design along the forearm without giving every element the same weight.
