START WITH WHAT MATTERS
You know the face.
Let’s find the right photograph.
A favourite photo is not always the clearest photo. Bring both: the one that means the most to you, and a few sharper alternatives. Tell us what you want to recognise first, whether it is a quiet smile, your dog’s eyes or a particular expression.
We can then discuss what to keep, what to simplify and how much space the portrait needs. If a photograph is too blurred to read the features, we will explain that before you commit to the design.
Read our photo-to-portrait guideSend the original photo
A clear original is more useful than a screenshot, beauty filter or heavily compressed copy. Include other views if you have them.
Show us the placement
Tell us where you want the tattoo and your approximate size. A face with fine details needs a different plan from a bold, simplified portrait.
Keep the important details
A name, date, flower or background can belong in the composition. We will help you decide which details support the face rather than crowd it.
MAKE IT YOURS
Same subject. A different feeling.
Black-and-grey portraits
Light, shadow and expression carry the image. This can be a natural starting point for a family photograph, a pet portrait or a cinematic character. Compare the facial features and the full composition, not only a close-up of the eyes.
Colour portraits
A coloured background, a familiar red bandana or a carefully chosen palette can become part of the portrait’s identity. Bring examples of the colour treatment you like, as well as the actual reference.
Devotional and artistic portraits
Shiva, Buddha and other devotional subjects need a conversation about expression, symbols and composition. For a personal portrait, likeness matters differently from an imagined character or stylised deity.

A clear quote starts
with your reference.
One face or three? A small pet portrait or an upper-arm composition? The number of faces, size, detail, colour and background all change the work involved. A photograph alone cannot give a reliable final price without agreeing on those choices.
Use our existing calculator for an initial estimate, then share your reference with the team for a portrait-specific quote. We will discuss the proposed design and cost before you book.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
A few questions worth asking.
Can you turn an old family photo into a portrait tattoo?
Sometimes. Send the original scan or the clearest available copy, along with any other photos of the same person. We need to see enough of the facial features to discuss a recognisable portrait. We will not promise that missing details can be recovered from a badly blurred image.
Can I include more than one person in the tattoo?
Yes, we can discuss a multi-person composition. The faces need enough space and a balanced arrangement. Different lighting or camera angles between photographs may affect how well they work together, so bring the full selection before deciding on the final size.
What should I bring for a dog or other pet portrait?
Bring clear photographs showing the face, eyes, markings and expression you love. Mention any detail you especially want kept, such as a familiar collar or a distinctive patch of fur. The team can then suggest which reference works best for the proposed placement.
Can you make a portrait very small?
Send the photo and the size you have in mind. There is no single minimum that fits every face: detail, contrast and placement all matter. If the proposed size is too small for the features you want, we will discuss a larger layout or a simpler interpretation.
Who will work on my portrait at Apex?
Start with the studio. We will discuss the reference and style, then confirm an available artist whose work fits the project. You can meet the current team and ask to see relevant examples before booking.
Can I plan a portrait before travelling to Delhi?
Yes. Send the reference, your preferred placement and travel dates before the visit. Ask the team to confirm the design discussion, artist availability and appointment plan before making arrangements around the tattoo.
